The boxing proverb goes: “Shaolin 36-style grappling, it is difficult to strike the enemy.” “It can be seen that Shaolin is powerful in grappling kung fu.
The Shaolin 36-style grappling is the essence of Shaolin grappling kung fu, which is cultivated by successive generations of martial monks through continuous combat combat.
The Shaolin 36-style grappling hand will be shared with you in four installments. This is the first issue to share with you.
First, twist the neck with both hands
The two sides confront each other (Figure 1-1). The enemy steps up to the right and attacks our upper plate with a straight right fist; We immediately step to the left and forward diagonally to the outside of the enemy’s right arm, dodge the enemy’s right fist, and at the same time grab the enemy’s right wrist with our right hand, trip the enemy’s right leg with our left leg, prevent it from retreating backwards to escape, and cut forward with the outer edge of our left palm to hit the enemy’s head; The enemy tilts his head back and blocks with his left hand (Figure 1-2). Our left leg continued to trituple the enemy’s right leg, and then released our right hand and pushed the enemy’s neck and throat forward with the right figure-eight palm, causing the enemy to breathe hard (Figures 1-3). Immediately afterwards, our feet quickly moved to the enemy’s back, and with our left hand, we put our arms around the right side of the enemy’s jaw from behind the enemy’s back and forcefully wrenched the enemy’s head to our lower left and lower left side, and at the same time pushed the enemy’s head with our right hand to my left back and lower head, and the combined force of our left and right hands forced the enemy’s head to rotate counterclockwise while also causing the enemy’s upper body to lose balance and fall backwards (Figure 1-4).
Second, grab your hair
The two sides confront each other (Figure 2-1). The enemy stepped up to the right and punched me straight in the chest with his right; We immediately dodge by sliding to the left to avoid the enemy’s right fist, while blocking the enemy’s right hand outward with our right hand and blocking the enemy’s right elbow arm inward with our left forearm to defuse the enemy’s attack (Figure 2-2). Immediately afterwards, we quickly stretched out our right hand and put the back of the enemy’s neck around the enemy, and with our right forearm, we put the strap back and downward on the back of the enemy’s head to prevent the enemy from escaping (Figures 2-3). Immediately, our right hand grabbed the hair on the back of the enemy’s head, and with the left hand, we pulled out the enemy’s jaw, and at the same time retreated to the left, and pulled the enemy’s head back and down with both hands, causing the enemy to fall on the face (Figure 2-4).
Third, the gripper arm wrench
The two sides confront each other (Figure 3-1). The enemy steps up to the left and smashes our head with a left fist; I stepped back and dodged with my right step, while shielding my left wrist with my left hand upwards (Figure 3-2). Immediately, our left hand grabbed the enemy’s left wrist to make the enemy back (Figure 3-3). Immediately afterwards, our left hand pulls the enemy’s left arm to our left waist, and quickly turns left and steps up and right to the enemy’s back, while extending the right hand from behind, forward, and left of the enemy, clasping the left side of the enemy’s jaw, and forcefully moving the enemy’s head to the right and back, so that the enemy’s head rotates clockwise, forcing the enemy’s cervical range of motion to approach its limit and the pain is unbearable, and the enemy is captured (Figure 3-4).
Fourth, twist the head and wrench the neck
The two sides confront each other (Figure 4-1). The enemy steps up to the left and pounces on our face with his left claw; We immediately retreated and dodged to the right (Figure 4-2). Immediately afterwards, our side quickly stepped up to the outside of the enemy’s left leg, and controlled the enemy’s left leg with our right leg; At the same time, the right hand blocks the enemy’s left arm from the inside of the enemy’s left arm, quickly grabs the top of the enemy’s head, and supports the enemy’s lower jaw with the left hand (Figure 4-3). The upward movement did not stop, and then our hands forcefully twisted the enemy’s head in a clockwise direction, so that the angle of rotation of the enemy’s cervical vertebrae was close to its limit and caused severe pain, so that his upper body could only rotate to his right rear with the direction of our twisting, and at the same time the enemy’s left leg was tripped by our right leg, so his upper body’s center of gravity lost balance and fell backwards (Fig. 4-4).
5. Grab hair at the back of the head
The two sides confront each other (Figure 5-1). The enemy stepped up to the right and punched me in the face with his right hand; I slid backwards and dodged on my back (Figure 5-2). Immediately, we grabbed the enemy’s right wrist with our left hand, immediately dodged behind the enemy from the outside of the enemy’s right arm, and at the same time twisted the enemy’s right arm behind his back, and grabbed the enemy’s hair on the top of the head with his left hand (Figure 5-3). Immediately afterwards, our side pressed the front of our left crotch against the enemy’s right straddle back, tripped the enemy’s right leg with our left leg, and then pulled the enemy’s hair backwards with our left hand, causing the enemy to fall backwards with his upper body and center of gravity (Figure 5-3).
6. Jaw picking
The two sides confront each other (Figure 6-1). The enemy stepped up to the right and punched me in the head with a straight left punch; We immediately retreated to the left to dodge, while blocking the enemy’s left wrist with our right forearm to defuse the enemy’s attack (Figure 6-2). Without stopping, our side quickly stepped forward and approached, while extending our right hand along the inside of the enemy’s left arm, and wrapped our arms around the back of the enemy’s neck from the enemy’s left shoulder to the right to prevent the enemy from escaping (Figure 6-3). Immediately afterwards, our side quickly used our left palm to support the enemy’s jaw while picking the enemy’s eyes with our index and middle fingers, and pushed forward and down forcefully, so that the enemy’s head was controlled by us and captured (Figure 6-4).
7. Don’t put your arms on your shoulders
The two sides confront each other (Figure 7-1). The enemy stepped up to the right and punched me in the head with his right; We immediately blocked the defense with our left forearm upwards and kicked the enemy’s crotch with our right leg (Figure 7-2). While the enemy’s crotch was kicked and the pain was unbearable, our right foot quickly fell backwards, and at the same time grabbed the enemy’s right wrist with the left hand, and the right arm immediately pushed the enemy’s right arm into the elbow socket of the enemy’s right arm while pulling the enemy’s right wrist down with the left hand (Figure 7-3). Immediately afterwards, our side turned to the right, grabbed the back of the enemy’s right shoulder with our right hand, and pushed the enemy’s right wrist forward with our left hand, forcing the enemy to lean over and be captured (Figure 7-4).
8. Fold your elbows and unload your shoulders
The two sides confront each other (Figure 8-1). The enemy stepped up to the right and punched me in the head with a right punch, and I leaned back to dodge to avoid the enemy’s right fist (Figure 8-2). Constantly moving upwards, we use our right forearm to block the enemy’s right wrist inward (Figure 8-3). Immediately afterwards, we quickly turned 180 degrees to the right, hung the enemy’s right wrist back with the inside of our right forearm, and at the same time slammed the right upper arm of the enemy’s right elbow joint with the left forearm, breaking the enemy’s right elbow joint with the force of our left and right forearms (Figure 8-4). Immediately, taking advantage of the fracture of the enemy’s right elbow, our left hand quickly grabbed the enemy’s right palm and folded it towards the enemy’s right elbow, while slamming the back of the enemy’s right shoulder forward and down with the left forearm, dislocating the right shoulder joint (Figs. 8-5).

9. Roll your wrists
The two sides confront each other (Figure 9-1). We step up to the right and attack the enemy’s head with our right fist; The enemy retreated to the right, with both legs in a left lunge to stabilize the center of gravity, while using the right hand to hold our right elbow upwards to defuse the Taiwan offensive (Figure 9-2). Our side immediately retreats to the right step, and at the same time grabs the enemy’s right wrist with our left hand so that it cannot retract (9-3), and then our left foot quickly takes half a step forward, leans forward with the upper body, presses the center of gravity down, runs the right arm forward and down, and presses the enemy’s right palm down with our right elbow, so that the angle between the back of the enemy’s right palm and the right forearm is less than 90 degrees, so that the angle of bending of the enemy’s right wrist is close to the limit and painful, and he is forced to kneel and beg for mercy (Figure 9-4).
10. Scissor the elbow
The two sides confront each other (Figure 10-1). The enemy steps up to the right and attacks our chest with a right lunge and a right punch; We immediately retreat and dodge with a left step, while blocking the enemy’s right wrist or right forearm with our right forearm inward (Figure 10-2). Immediately afterwards, our right hand grabbed the enemy’s right wrist; and quickly turn to the right, and at the same time insert the right step under the enemy’s crotch from the front of the enemy’s right leg, roll the left forearm to the outside of the enemy’s right elbow and press the enemy’s right wrist with the right arm, so that the enemy’s right elbow joint becomes a reverse joint and the right arm cannot be bent; We then lean forward and down, straighten our left leg, lift the enemy’s right wrist up with our right arm, and press down on the outside of the enemy’s right elbow with our left forearm, causing the enemy’s right elbow joint to run in reverse beyond the limit of its range of motion and causing pain and forced to bow down (Figure 10-3).
11. Take the arm and wrestle
The two sides confront each other (Figure 11-1). The enemy stepped up to the right and punched me in the abdomen with his right plant; Our left hand immediately grabbed the enemy’s right wrist inward; At the same time, the left foot is half a step forward and close, and the right side of the enemy’s head is punched with the right back (Figure 11-2). Immediately afterwards, our right hand grabbed the outside of the enemy’s right forearm; Immediately grab the enemy’s right wrist with the left hand, cut the enemy’s right arm clockwise from top to bottom, and then up in a circle, and then push it behind the enemy, while grabbing the outside of the enemy’s right big arm with the right hand and putting it on his waist and pressing it down, so that the enemy leans forward and down; We then quickly raised our right knee and slammed into the chest, abdomen or crotch of the enemy (Fig. 11-3). Without stopping, our side immediately inserted our right leg into the back of the enemy’s legs to form a tripping leg, and turned to the right forcefully, turning the enemy’s right arm to the right with both hands, and combined forces up and down to throw the enemy to the ground, and capture and subdue the enemy (Figure 11-4).
12. Grab the wrist and fold the arm
The two sides confront each other (Figure 12-1). The enemy steps forward and left and smashes our head with a left fist; We immediately step backwards, step right to the right, and turn to the right to dodge the enemy’s right fist, while grasping the enemy’s right elbow or right forearm with the right palm to defuse the enemy’s right fist attack (Figure 12-2). Then we turn to the right, insert our left leg behind the enemy’s back, and turn our backs to the enemy; At the same time, the left hand extends from the bottom up along the outside of the enemy’s right upper arm, grabbing the enemy’s left wrist (Figure 11-3). Immediately afterwards, our left hand violently pulled the enemy’s right wrist down, and at the same time pinned the enemy’s right upper arm with the left forearm and raised it up, so as to force the enemy’s right arm to flex the elbow and shoulder joint into an abduction spiral, so that the enemy’s right elbow joint locked back, and the upper body fell backwards and was captured by us (Figure 11-4).
13. Fold your elbows
The two sides confront each other (Figure 13-1). The enemy steps up to the right and attacks our chest with a straight right fist; We take half a step forward with our left foot, dodge to the left side, and neutralize the enemy’s right forearm with both arms raised and blocked the enemy’s right forearm from the outside to the inside with both forearms (Figure 13-2). Immediately afterwards, we turn to the right, insert our left leg in front of the enemy’s right leg to form a tripping leg, and at the same time grab the enemy’s right wrist with our right hand, pull back the enemy’s right arm, and use the ulna side of the left forearm to violently lift the outside of the enemy’s right elbow joint upward, so that the enemy’s right elbow is upward in the shape of a reverse joint, and the right arm is straight and cannot be bent (Figure 13-3). Immediately, our side quickly turned to the right side of the enemy, and with the turn of the enemy, we carried the enemy’s right elbow on our left shoulder, and made the elbow bone on the outside of the enemy’s right elbow joint facing down, and the right elbow in the shape of a reverse joint; Immediately afterwards, we press down the enemy’s right wrist with both hands, lean forward with the upper body, push the hip back against the enemy’s crotch, and push the shoulder to the enemy’s elbow, control the enemy’s right arm with an over-the-shoulder fall, and subdue the enemy (Figure 13-4).
14. Stumbling leg spiral arm
The two sides confront each other (Figure 14-1). The enemy steps up to the right and attacks our head with a straight right fist; Our side immediately stepped to the right and dodged to the right to avoid the enemy’s right fist; At the same time, grab the enemy’s right wrist outward with your right hand and hit the enemy’s chest with a left upper hook (Figure 14-2). Immediately afterwards, our upper left leg to the front of the enemy’s right leg stumble, while our right hand pulls the enemy’s right arm back to our right waist, and hugs the enemy’s right arm with our left arm; Then use your left forearm to vigorously lift the outside of the enemy’s right elbow joint (with the elbow socket facing up), while using your right hand to violently press down on the enemy’s right wrist, breaking the enemy’s right elbow to make it painful (Figure 14-3). Constantly moving upwards, our side quickly sits on the crotch and turns back, turning back to the right, and the enemy’s right arm rotates with our turn, at which point our left leg tripped the enemy’s right leg and threw the enemy (Figure 14-4). After we have thrown the enemy to the ground, we capture it and subdue it (Figure 14-5).
15. Wrap arms and shoulders
The two sides confront each other (Figure 15-1). Step forward with our right foot, while striking the right side of the enemy’s head with our right back; The enemy retreats and dodges left, while using his right palm to shoot outward to block the defense (Figure 15-2). Our side immediately wrapped our right forearm around the enemy’s right forearm to his right elbow, and clamped the enemy’s right forearm with our right forearm and forearm; Then step up and left in front of the enemy’s legs, between his legs, turn to the right, push the enemy’s right elbow with his left palm down to the right, and press the enemy’s right shoulder down with his right elbow, thereby pinning the enemy’s right arm to the right rear side of his body (Figure 15-3). At this time, the enemy’s right forearm is pinned by us, the right elbow joint is pushed down to form a reverse joint, the right shoulder joint is pressed down by our left elbow, and the right leg is tripped by our left leg, so the enemy will fall forward and be captured (Figure 15-4).
16. Bend your elbows and wrists
The two sides confront each other (Figure 16-1). We take a big step forward with our right foot and attack the enemy’s head with our right fist; The enemy retreats and dodges left, while shielding the defense with his forearm upwards (Figure 16-2). Our right fist immediately changes palms, flips outward to grab the enemy’s right wrist, quickly goes up to the left foot behind the enemy, and the body immediately turns to the right; Twist the enemy’s right arm clockwise while pulling the enemy’s right arm back so that the elbow bone on the outside of the right elbow joint is facing down, and immediately grasp the enemy’s right elbow from bottom to top with your left hand (Figure 16-4). Constantly moving upward, our left hand forcefully lifted the lateral elbow bone of the enemy’s right elbow, and at the same time the right hand rolled down to fold the enemy’s right wrist, causing the enemy’s right wrist and right elbow joints to form a reverse joint and pain, and was forced to beg for mercy (Figure 16-5).
17. Control the arm and face
The enemy and friend confront each other (Figure 17-1). The enemy steps up to the right and grabs our left shoulder with his right hand; Our feet retreated to escape, but the enemy clung to it (Figure 17-2). We immediately grab the enemy’s right hand with our right hand and twist the enemy’s right wrist clockwise, pulling the enemy’s right arm back so that his right arm is straight and the elbow bone on the outside of the right elbow joint is facing us; Immediately, our right foot retreated half a step back, shifted the center of gravity to the right leg, turned to the right, and slammed the outside of the enemy’s right forearm with our left forearm, causing the enemy’s right shoulder, right elbow, and right wrist joints to form reverse joints and become painful (Figure 17-3). Immediately afterwards, our left palm pierces under the enemy’s right forearm, and while lifting the enemy’s right elbow upwards, we slam the enemy’s nose with the back of the left palm (Figure 17-4); You can then slap the enemy’s crotch with the back of your palm downwards.
18. Raise your arms and shoulders
The two sides confront each other (Figure 18-1). The enemy steps up to the right and attacks our face with a straight right fist; We immediately retreated and dodged with a left step, while slapped the enemy’s right forearm inward with our right palm and grabbed his right wrist (Figure 18-2). Immediately afterwards, we pull the enemy’s right arm back, while stepping up and left to get close, and insert the left forearm forward from under the enemy’s right arm, and use the left forearm to provoke the enemy’s right armpit upwards (Figure 18-3). Immediately, our left hand went back to grasp the enemy’s left shoulder arm joint; At the same time, step up with the right foot, turn to the right, and then use the left hand to violently press down on the back of the enemy’s left shoulder, and use the right hand to lift the enemy’s right arm, so that the enemy’s left shoulder is in the shape of a reverse joint and painful, so as to bind the hands and catch (Figure 18-4).
19. Fold your wrists and support your elbows
The two sides confront each other (Figure 19-1). We step up to the right and punch the enemy in the head with our right fist; The enemy retreats to the left to dodge, while blocking the defense with his right forearm (Figure 19-2). The enemy’s right hand counterstroked down and grabbed our right wrist (Figure 19-3). Our right hand immediately violently shakes forward, forcing the enemy’s right hand to loosen, at which point our right hand rotates the wrist of the enemy and straightens its arm while twisting it; Immediately afterwards, we step left to the outside of the enemy’s right arm, and use our left palm to vigorously support the enemy’s right elbow joint, so that the enemy’s right wrist and elbow are in the shape of a reverse joint, at this time, our hands are pressed against each other, so that the enemy’s right wrist is folded backwards, and the right elbow is supported and severely painful, thus giving in and begging for mercy (Figure 19-4).
20. Spiral arm tripping
The two sides confront each other (Figure 20-1). The enemy steps up to the right and punches us in the face with a straight right punch; I dodged to the left while grabbing the enemy’s right wrist with my right hand; Immediately insert the left leg in front of the enemy’s right leg to form a tripping leg, while the left claw is pierced out from under the enemy’s right armpit, clasping the enemy’s right collarbone (Figure 20-2). Immediately, while straightening the enemy’s right arm, we twist the enemy’s right arm clockwise with our right hand downward and inward so that the outer elbow bone of its right elbow is facing us, while we turn our body sharply to the right and press the outside of the enemy’s right elbow with our left shoulder to the right and down, so that its right elbow is counter-jointed (Fig. 20-3). Continue to rotate our upper body to the right, continue to press the outside of the enemy’s right elbow with our left shoulder to the right and down, while sweeping the enemy’s right leg backwards with our left leg to capture the enemy (Figure 20-4).
21. Fold arms and shoulders
The two sides confront each other (Figure 21-1). The enemy steps up to the right and attacks our face with a straight right fist; I stepped back and dodged left, while blocking the defense with my right hand inside (Figure 21-2). Immediately, our right hand grabbed the enemy’s right wrist and brought it back, straightening the enemy’s right arm; At the same time, we insert our left leg in front of the enemy’s right leg to form a tripping leg, turn our body to the right, squeeze our left shoulder forward, carry the enemy’s right forearm on our left shoulder, and roll the outside of the enemy’s elbow with the inside of the left forearm, forcing the enemy’s elbow joint not to bend (Figure 21-3). Immediately afterwards, our side quickly turned to the right, stretched the left leg to trip the enemy’s right leg, used the left shoulder to push the enemy’s right forearm upwards, and continued to force down with the left forearm to violently press the outside elbow of the enemy’s right elbow, while our left elbow slid forward, pressing down on the enemy’s right shoulder blade with the tip of the elbow, so that the enemy’s right elbow arm was folded and his right shoulder was pressed forward and captured (Figure 21-4).
22. Shoulder folding arms
The two sides confront each other (Figure 22-1). The enemy steps up to the right and attacks our face with a straight right fist; I slid backwards and dodged the enemy’s right fist on my back (Figure 22-2). Immediately, we quickly grabbed the enemy’s right wrist with our right hand and pulled it towards our right waist, while inserting our left leg in front of the enemy’s right leg to form a tripping leg; Immediately afterwards, our left claw thrust down and violently grabbed and pinched the enemy’s crotch, and the enemy would bend over to avoid the struggle in severe pain (Figure 22-3). While the enemy was bending down, our side immediately used our left shoulder arm to press the outside of the enemy’s right elbow joint downward, grabbed the enemy’s right wrist with the right hand and lifted the enemy’s right arm behind us; At the same time, the upper body continues to turn to the right and press down, so that the enemy’s right arm is folded forward and captured (Figure 22-4).
23. Pry your elbows and don’t shoulder them
The two sides confront each other (Figure 23-1). The enemy steps up to the left and attacks our head with a straight left fist; I retreated and dodged with my left step, blocking the enemy’s left fist with my left hand downwards while hitting the enemy’s side with my right fist (Figure 23-2). Immediately afterwards, our left leg steps up and left behind the outside of the enemy’s left leg to pin the enemy’s left leg; Our left hand grabs the enemy’s left wrist and pushes forward, the right hand is inserted inward along the enemy’s left forearm, clasps our left forearm, and presses the enemy’s right elbow socket down on the enemy’s right arm, forcing the enemy to bend his right elbow (Figure 23-3). At this time, our left and right arms are interlocked, in the shape of a T-shaped lever, on both sides of the enemy’s right forearm and big arm, one down, one up, to the right side of the enemy’s body to pry down his right elbow and shoulder joint, so that the enemy’s elbow and shoulder run in the opposite joint and produce severe pain, thereby yielding and being captured (Figure 23-4).
24. Pressed elbow lock shoulder
The two sides confront each other (Figure 24-1). The enemy steps up to the right and punches us in the face with a straight right punch; I dodged to the left, while grabbing the enemy’s right wrist with my right hand and bringing it back to straighten the enemy’s right arm; At the same time, insert the left leg into the front of the enemy’s right leg to form a tripping leg, twist the enemy’s right arm outward and downward with the right hand so that the outside elbow of the right elbow is facing us, at this time we use our left forearm to violently cross the enemy’s right elbow outward, breaking it (Figure 24-2). Immediately afterwards, our side continued to twist the enemy’s right arm outward and downward, forcing the enemy to raise his right elbow. At this time, our left forearm violently presses down on the enemy’s right elbow, and the right hand twists the enemy’s right wrist forward and down (Figure 24-3). At this time, the enemy’s elbow and shoulder joints were in the shape of anti-joints, exceeding the limit of their range of motion and aching, and they were forced to fall down and capture them (Figure 24-4).
Twenty-five, lean over and fold your wrists
The two sides confront each other (Figure 25-1). We step up to the right and hit the enemy’s side with our back-fist; The enemy retreated and dodged with a left step, while holding our right forearm upwards with his left hand (Figure 25-2). The moment the enemy’s left hand grabbed our left forearm, we immediately grabbed the back of the enemy’s left hand with our left hand and locked it under our right forearm so that it could not escape (Figure 25-3). I then retreated to the right and leaned down, forcing the enemy’s left hand to turn upside down, causing severe pain in the enemy’s left wrist, and kneeling and begging for mercy (Fig. 25-4).
26. Grab the arm and fall
The two sides confront each other (Figure 26-1). The enemy stepped up to the left and punched me in the face with his left fist; We take a step to the left with our left foot, dodge the enemy’s left fist with our upper body to the left, and at the same time put our left hand down and our right hand on top, and use our cross hand to raise the enemy’s left forearm and open the enemy’s left fist (Figure 26-2). Immediately, our left hand quickly turns the wrist opposite the palm of our right hand, and together we grasp the enemy’s left wrist and left palm, while bending the right elbow forward, so that the right elbow is on the outside of the enemy’s left elbow, and the left forearm is close to the enemy’s left forearm (Figure 26-3). Immediately afterwards, our hands joined forces to twist the enemy’s left wrist from left to right, and raised the enemy’s left elbow inward and upward with our left elbow, forcing the enemy’s elbow to rotate inward and the upper arm to adduct. Immediately, our left leg was quickly withdrawn, and the enemy’s left arm was shaken clockwise outward, downward, inward, and upward, like a rocker, so that the enemy’s shoulder, elbow, and wrist were rotated outside their range of motion and forced to fall (Figure 26-4).
27. Raise the crotch and cut the brain
The two sides confront each other (Figure 27-1). The enemy steps up to the right and attacks our chest with a straight right fist; We immediately dodged to the outside of the enemy’s right arm with a left-forward step up and right, sideways to avoid the enemy’s right fist (Figure 27-2). Immediately afterwards, we use our left palm to push the outside of the enemy’s right arm, step up to the left and turn right, and use our right claw to grab the enemy’s crotch from behind the enemy’s buttocks and lift it up forcefully (Figure 27-3). Moving upwards, our left hand slashed down the back of the enemy’s head, knocking the enemy at the enemy and capturing him (Figure 27-4).
