Chuanwu boxing proverb: “One foot behind the hand, the world is invincible.” The “foot behind the hand” here refers to the elbow.
The elbow is extremely powerful in hand-to-hand combat, and the elbow joint is also an important joint in the arm, so breaking the enemy’s arm by breaking the enemy’s elbow in hand-to-hand combat is an important technique in martial arts grappling. This is because the wrist is a slight knot of the arm, and in the fight between the two sides, the slight knot has a large range of movement, is fast, and is not easy to get started, and it is difficult to get a hand. The shoulder is the root node of the arm, and although the range of motion of the shoulder is small and slow, it is not easy due to the fact that controlling here requires deep into enemy territory. The best control, the elbow joint one foot behind the hand, controls the enemy’s elbow joint, not only incapacitating it slightly, but also limiting the movement of his shoulder joint.
It should be noted that when grappling the elbow, it is easy to succeed in attacking from several aspects such as the enemy’s external turn up, standing elbow backward, and not folding after hanging elbow.
First, grab the shoulders and don’t elbow
the enemy grabs our shoulders with both hands from the front (Figure 1-1), and we immediately loosen our shoulders slightly, and the right hand is rotated inward and bent downward to clamp the enemy’s left elbow joint (Figures 1-2).
Without stopping, our right hand quickly pierces and reverses and pulls the enemy’s left elbow joint to catch the enemy (Figures 1-3, Figs. 1-4).
Second, grab your chest and don’t elbow
The enemy steps from the front, up to the left, and grasps our chest with his right hand (Figure 2-1). We immediately pressed the enemy’s right hand with both hands, and then turned diagonally down (Figure 2-2).
Moving up, we use our left elbow joint to push the enemy’s right elbow joint, force the enemy’s right elbow joint to stand and fall backwards (Fig. 2-3), then continue to turn back to the right, and lean forward, using our shoulder to support the enemy’s right elbow joint to capture the enemy (Fig. 2-4).
Third, grasp the chest and press the legs
The enemy grabbed our chest with his right hand from the front; We immediately first snapped the enemy’s right wrist with our right hand and controlled it, and grabbed the enemy’s right forearm with our left hand (Figure 3-1). Constantly moving up, our left hand twists the enemy’s right forearm from bottom to top (Figure 3-2).
Immediately after the upward movement, our hands immediately twisted the enemy’s right arm and pressed down, and at the same time stepped down with the left leg over the arm (Figure 3-3), brought it to the chest, knelt and pressed forward to press the enemy’s right arm in front of the chest, and captured the enemy in uniform (Figures 3-4).
Fourth, grab the back shoulder and raise the elbow
The enemy clapped our left shoulder with his right hand from behind (Figure 4-1). We immediately pressed the enemy’s right hand with our right hand (Figure 4-2).
Constantly moving upward, our left arm is rapidly raised (Figure 4-3), then quickly hooks backwards and downward to hook the enemy’s right elbow joint, and lift it up hard to subdue the enemy (Figures 4-4).
5. Anti-elbow pulling
The enemy steps up to the left and punches us in the head with a right punch; We immediately block the defense with our left forearm (Figure 5-1). Moving upwards, our side quickly approached the enemy and thrust our right arm under the enemy’s right elbow (Figure 5-2).
Immediately after the upward movement, our left hand pushes up, our right hand pulls down, and uses friction to force the enemy to close his elbow and fall back (Figure 5-3), then we put our right hand on the left hand, press down with both hands and lean forward to capture the enemy (Figure 5-4).
6. Wrap your wrists and press your elbows
The enemy’s right hand grabbed our right wrist (Figure 6-1), and we immediately grabbed the enemy’s right wrist with the wrist wrapping method, and then twisted the enemy’s right elbow joint with the left forearm to capture the enemy (Figure 6-2).
7. Finger pulling elbows
The enemy’s right hand grabbed our left hand with the mouth facing up (Figure 7-1); Our side immediately rotates Bela to the side of the enemy’s thumb (Figure 7-2), the enemy will not let go, naturally forming a state of standing elbow and falling back, at this time, our left hand violently presses down on the enemy’s right wrist, and the left hand grabs the enemy’s right arm and jerks upwards, forcing the enemy’s right elbow joint beyond the limit of movement, thereby forcing the enemy to submit and capture (Figure 7-3).
8. Twist the wrist and press the elbow
The enemy grabs our right wrist with his right hand (Figure 8-1), and we can twist the enemy’s wrist like a wrist wrap, forcing the enemy’s arm to lift, and then we use our left hand to push forward the enemy’s raised right elbow joint (Figure 8-2).
Immediately after the upward movement, our side immediately sent the enemy’s right wrist into the left elbow bend of the Taiwan side, pressed down with the left hand, leaned forward, and locked the enemy’s right arm (Figure 8-3). Immediately afterwards, we firmly grasped the enemy’s right wrist with our right hand and continued to twist it back, and the left hand slashed forward with the body to cut the enemy’s right elbow joint, forcing the enemy forward to fall to the ground (Figure 8-4).
9. Wear the arm and press the elbow
Our right hand grasps the back of the enemy’s left wrist from top to bottom, twists the wrist back, and forces the enemy’s left elbow joint up (Figure 9-1). Taking advantage of the enemy’s left elbow raised, our side immediately stepped forward and pierced the left hand through the crook of the enemy’s elbow arm (Figure 9-2).
The back of the enemy’s left wrist with our right hand continues to twist up and backward, and the left arm violently presses down on the enemy’s left elbow joint in the direction of left and forward and downward, and the enemy will kneel forward due to severe pain (Figure 9-3).
10. Wear elbow lock arms
With our left hand, we clasp the back of the enemy’s left wrist and sit on the top of the wrist, forcing the enemy’s left elbow up (Figure 10-1). Immediately after the upward movement, our right foot steps forward and turns, and the right hand passes through the bend of his elbow (Figure 10-2), and then our left hand continues to press up the enemy’s left wrist, the left foot takes half a step back to the left, and the right hand uses the force of the regression to turn the waist to sharply screw the enemy’s left elbow joint to the lower left to subdue the enemy (Figure 10-3).
When grappling the elbow, it is easy to succeed in attacking from several aspects, such as standing up and standing up, and not folding after the elbow. For this reasoning, please read this technical point in this account, and it is no longer difficult to catch the enemy’s elbow joint and split the bone in combat.

11. Lead the sheep and elbows
We first grabbed the enemy’s right wrist with a sheep-pulling motion (Figure 11-1). When the enemy is forced to form a standing elbow and fall back, our right hand is rotated outward, inserted in reverse into the inside of the enemy’s right elbow joint, and the left hand continues to twist the wrist (Figure 11-2), and then our left foot leans behind the enemy with a step forward, pins the enemy’s right wrist joint with the body, and pries the enemy’s right elbow joint upwards with the right elbow flexion of the right arm to subdue the enemy (Figure 11-3).
12. Hold your elbows and don’t have your wrists
We hold the enemy’s right wrist with our right hand from the front (Figure 12-1). Immediately afterwards, our left foot stepped forward, the left hand pierced through the outside ribs of the gangster, bent the elbow and hugged the enemy’s right arm, pressed the big arm behind the enemy’s right elbow joint, and pinned the right wrist with the right hand to subdue the enemy (Figure 12-2).
13. Clamp your elbows and don’t have your wrists
We grab the enemy’s right wrist with our right hand (Figure 13-1). Then, step forward with the left foot, insert the left hand into the enemy’s chest and bend the elbow, clamp his arm back, press the front of the right forearm against the elbow bone of the enemy’s right elbow joint, grab the enemy’s right wrist with the right hand and force down to subdue the enemy (Figure 13-2).
14. Curl wrist pressure elbow
The enemy grabbed our right wrist with his left hand (Figure 14-1). We can first catch his left wrist by curling his wrist (Figure 14-2). Immediately afterwards, we take a step forward with our right foot, bend our right elbow, and use our right forearm to press back against the elbow bone of the enemy’s left elbow joint (Figure 14-3). If we keep moving, our hands are clasped at the same time, and the enemy will definitely fall and be captured (Figure 14-4).
Fifteen, twist the elbow
The enemy hits us in the chest with a straight right fist, and we immediately put our right hand on our wrist and then press down on our wrist (Fig. 15-1). The enemy then punches me in the head with his left hand, and we reverse it with his left hand (Figure 15-2). The upward movement does not stop, our left hand quickly back-palms the enemy’s left wrist and pulls down forcefully, so that the enemy’s arms twist each other, our right hand grips the wrist to force the enemy’s left arm around the right arm backwards, the left hand pulls the enemy’s left arm to the right and pushes sharply, catching the enemy and even breaking the enemy’s elbow (Figure 15-3).
16. Turn around and don’t elbow (1)
The enemy grabbed our right shoulder with his right hand from behind us (Figure 16-1). We quickly turn back to the right, then extend our right arm out from under the arm and clamp the enemy’s right forearm, which pushes diagonally against the enemy’s right elbow (Figure 16-2). Without stopping, our body immediately twists to the right, and the left arm moves down to the right and lower right to capture the enemy (Figure 16-2).
17. Turn around and don’t elbow (2)
The enemy sneaks up from behind us and grabs our back collar with his right hand (Figure 17-1). We can quickly turn left and back, and our left arm simultaneously passes outward and upward from under the enemy’s right arm (Figure 17-2). Without stopping, we immediately leaned our left forearm against the elbow bone of the enemy’s right elbow joint, leaned forward and pressed down, and at the same time pushed the enemy’s right elbow joint to the left front to capture the enemy (Figure 17-3).
18. Curl your wrists and elbows
The enemy grabbed our right wrist with his right hand (Figure 18-1). We can first raise our wrist up, then roll the enemy’s right wrist with the left hand facing up, and press the curve of the enemy’s right arm before bending the elbow (Figure 18-2). Keeping moving up, our right elbow turns backwards to pin the enemy’s right elbow joint, and both hands firmly roll the enemy’s right wrist to catch the enemy (Figure 18-3).
19. Hard back elbow
The enemy grabbed our right wrist with his right hand (Figure 19-1). We take a big step forward with our left foot in front of the enemy’s crotch, turn right, and put our left shoulder on the enemy’s right elbow (Figure 19-2). Immediately afterwards, we grabbed the enemy’s right wrist with both hands, pulled it down forcefully, and at the same time leaned forward with the upper body, forcing the enemy’s right elbow joint to exceed its normal movement limit and forced to give in and beg for mercy (Figure 19-3).
20. Reverse elbow
The enemy grabbed the back collar of our coat with his right hand from behind us (Figure 20-1). We can first press the back of the enemy’s right hand with our right hand, turn left at the same time, pierce the left arm from behind the enemy’s right arm (Figure 20-2), press down and push up the enemy’s right elbow, and change the right hand to grab the enemy’s wrist from the front (Figure 20-3). Immediately, we leaned forward, continued to press the enemy’s right elbow with our left hand, twisted the enemy’s right wrist with our right hand, and pressed the enemy to the ground and subdued the enemy (Figure 20-4).
