Jeet Kune Do elbow attack method

The elbow method is a sharp weapon in close combat, and it can produce greater lethality under the premise of fully using body twisting and elbow joint around the shoulder joint back and forth, up and down.

It has the characteristics of fast starting speed, strong explosive power, tricky angle and easy control. It is mostly used in conjunction with manoeuvres and is often used for counterattacks and supplementary strikes. Can be used with both hands and left hands. The main areas of attack are the head and chest. Here’s how to hit basically:

1. Hit the elbow up

[Method of action]

Stand on the right swing pile. The center of gravity is shifted slightly forward, the upper body is turned to the left, the forearm and upper arm of the right hand are slightly clamped, and the right hand is directly backward through the right ear, causing the front elbow to strike directly upward along the midline, reaching the tip of the elbow, the same height or slightly higher than the lower jaw. (Figure 2-66(1)(2))

[Note]

When raising the elbow, rotate the body counterclockwise and send the right shoulder forward.

[Practical Demonstration]

Confrontation between enemies and us. When the opponent attacks me laterally with my right fist, I grab the opponent’s strike arm with my left hand, lift it with my right hand, and hit the opponent’s jaw with an elbow. (Figure 2-67)

[Method of action]

Stand on the right swing pile. Move the center of gravity forward to the right foot, raise the left heel and roll outward, twist the waist clockwise and turn the hip, drive the left elbow to hit horizontally from the outside to the inside, the force reaches the tip of the elbow, high and shoulder level, and keep the right hand in a high position to protect or cooperate with the attack. (Figure 2-68(1)(2))

[Note]

When attacking, the hand is relaxed into a palm, and the forearm and upper arm should not be too close, otherwise it will cause the arm muscles to stiffen, resulting in too slow attack speed and affecting the instant strike effect.

[Practical Demonstration]

Confrontation between enemies and us. When the opponent punches me in the head with his left fist, I slap my right hand and at the same time, turn my body to the right and hit the opponent in the head with a left horizontal elbow. (Figure 2-69)

3. Hit the elbow down

[Method of action]

Stand on the right swing pile. The center of gravity is lowered slightly, and at the same time, slightly raise the right elbow, so that the back of the right hand is placed on the left ear, turn around and sink the shoulder, and the elbow joint is smashed downwards, and the force reaches the tip of the elbow. (Figure 2-70(1)(2))

[Note]

When hitting the elbow, you need to hit with the force of the body sinking.

[Practical Demonstration]

Confrontation between enemies and us. While the opponent was putting his arm around my waist and preparing to perform a throw, I hit the opponent on the head with my lower right elbow. (Figure 2-71)

4. Back elbow

[Method of action]

Stand on the right swing pile. The left arm is raised with the elbow bent, the upper body is turned to the left, and the left elbow is driven to hit the back, reaching the tip of the elbow. (Figure 2-72(1)(2))

【Note】

Turning the elbow strike and turning the head to look back should be done in tandem.

【Practical Demonstration】

The sides stand back and forth. The opponent hugged me by the waist from behind, and when I was ready to perform the throw, I turned around and hit the opponent in the head with my left back elbow. (Figure 2-73)
